Jimmy Edgar – “Fabriclive 79”
Time traveler from a distant planet of gritty dance music, Jimmy Edgar is known for his transformative style throughout the stages of his bustling career as a producer and DJ—techno, house, electro, funk; he’s dabbled in it all and with virtuosity too. He also recently started up his Ultramajic label with Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) just this last year. The releases on the label are more techno-based, minimalist electronica and evolving from the funkier sounds of the classics (E.G. their last Midas Touch remix together).
Honoring his hometown Detroit and the pride it carries, Jimmy Edgar has collaborated with DJ Rashad in making the upcoming Fabriclive 79 from the London based club and label Fabric. He’s also put together a full vinyl half-hour mix to ring in the arrival. On his process on making the mix:
I went through a bunch of unreleased tracks we are going to put out on Ultramajic and decided to launch them with this mix. I got some exclusive material from my good friends Danny Daze, Crystal Bandito, and Kris Wadsworth. This mix is explores the different vibes of Ultramajic…This is my first all vinyl mix in a few years and 2015 I will be doing a lot more digging since Ultramajic is concentrating on vinyl. For me, vinyl is a piece of history, a stamp in time that also changes with time. I find it fascinating going back to a physical format that has been played in so many different scenarios.
