HONNE – “Didn’t I (Darondo Cover)”
No wonder they are dubbed ‘Honne’, which is a Japanese word that describes a person’s true desires in contrast to ‘tatemae’, describing the person’s behavior in public. This etymology faultlessly encapsulates this British duo, who beautifully balances their music in zen like equilibrium. They have released this new summer prelude, giving us a candid look into the minds of these two artists. The Darondo cover is intimate and dark in all the right places. On the production:
A couple of months ago a close friend of ours introduced us to “Didn’t I” by Darondo and we fell in love it. We love the charm of the original, how raw the recording is and how unusual and striking his vocal performance is. But the lyrics and melody in particular struck a chord with us and we felt that it could work really well as a Honne cover, so we gave it shot. Hopefully we’ve done it justice.
‘Didn’t I’ is on their new EP ‘Coastal Love’, released on May 4th on Tatemae Recordings.
