Thursday night we headed over to Downtown LA’s Live concert venue Club Nokia to watch Azealia Banks and Lolawolf take the stage with two stellar performances. The show kicked off with New York trio Lolawolf, whose front woman Zoë Kravitz, got the crowd hyped up and in the groove with songs off their LP Calm Down, which contains a nice mixture of hip-hop and tribal elements. The band includes Jimmy Giannoppulos and James Levy from Reputante. Lolawolf closed their set with their hit single, “Bitch.” As Zoë gyrated to the beats and sang, “who’s the badass bitch that nobody heard, but everybody heard of.” You couldn’t help but think that that would not be the case for very much longer. Willow Smith was also in attendance among other stars from Zoë’s upcoming film,”Dope Movie.”

Azealia Banks headlined the night, opening her set with the song, “Idle Delilah” off her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste. Azealia’s set was full of 90’s nostalgia, that contained elements of deep house, trap, with a touch of UK garage. She had background dancers to help create an energetic atmosphere, and also surprised fans halfway through her set by having Theophilus London join her onstage for the song he collaborated with her called, “JFK.”

Overall, it was a musical and talented night to remember. Making Thursday truly feel like it was the new Friday.
