Andy Butler – “You Can Shine (feat. Richard Kennedy)”
We can always expect Andy Butler to have something new brewing. Whether it’s a new track from Hercules & Love Affair or his own solo project, we will always pay special attention to this artist. Andy is getting ready to debut his first solo EP through his very own budding label mr.intl. The EP will be composed of two outstanding tracks and if you are familiar with his music, you know that they will be dance floor oriented.
Below you can stream the leading track titled “You Can Shine” which comes complete with soaring and soulful vocals from NYC vocalist Richard Kennedy. The beat is emblazoned with a deep tech flavor that is a slightly more dangerous and mysterious side to Andy that we haven’t heard too often. Here is what he had to say about the EP:
“Whilst Hercules has a collaborative, collective approach, Shine goes for a more direct approach, a stomping, uplifting club 12″ but it’s me so it will still have something of Hercules about it.”
“I wanted to tap into the gospel tradition, for there to be a testifying quality to the record… Richard and I talk in the lyrics about putting ego aside and allowing people around you to shine. You shine when you acknowledge other people’s shine, even, if you will, the creator’s shine. I hope we’ve created something new. House is often soulful but you very rarely hear a big gospel-inflected voice paired with booming, doomy techno.”
Given this first taste, this EP is shaping up to be an early favorite for us. Mark your calendars for March 16th with the beatport release and February 23rd for those of you looking to snatch up the vinyl!
