Joel Ford – “Breathe (feat. Ejecta)”
Who called for a hefty helping of relentless, industrial, melodic techno? Well it looks like your order has arrived via the musical charm of Joel Ford. Joel is debuting his solo project with a release titled ‘Fugitive’ that will be dropping early next year via Driftless Recordings, the label he co-founded with Patrick McDermott. This mini-album will incorporate tracks like “Breathe” that sample “classic action thrillers of the 1980s and 1990s.”
With “Breathe” we have a lush techno onslaught that makes use of brooding and destructive synth stabs. The bass is sharp and whirling atmospherics provide an expansive playground for Ejecta‘s Leanne Macomber to deliver poignant vocals. Even those jazzy flourishes sound like something completely fresh and new. Joel really outdoes himself by taking some forgotten retro soundscapes and molding them into something modern and dark.
