Future Disco Radio Show 59 / Copy Paste Soul Guestmix
British compilation brand Future Disco presents an outstanding hour of bouncing disco-inflected house, with rising artist Copy Paste Soul guestmixing after the thirty-minute mark. If you’re familiar with the skittering hi-hats of Vakula or Tensnake’s bright synths, then you’re primed for the sounds and styles represented here—sexy, sweaty dance music with a touch of floating ambience.
True to the name of the Future Disco Radio series, the first half of the mix plays like a carefully considered radio slot, songs standing distinctly apart rather than blending together. Contemporary disco ensemble Midnight Magic’s recently released “Night Flight” sounds like a long-lost spacey dance cut recently dusted off and set on the turntable. Then Mario Basanov’s cozy house remix of “Hiding in the Darkness” shows the program’s predominate character: this is house music, with just a touch of disco bookending the mix. The initial vocal-oriented tracks gradually give way to instrumentals, with Gardens of God’s arcing, bass-heavy instrumental “Gluck” detouring proceedings into more brooding headspaces. Copy Paste Soul’s half continues in this vein, with dark organ riffs and seductive vocals carrying the mix to its mellow conclusion.
