It’s been almost two years since Nyiko and The White Electric graced us with “In the Middle” and the follow up is finally here. “9×16″ is further proof of the chemistry between the two. This time the result a glimmering pop number with melancholic undertones, carefully embellished by Nyiko’s passionate vocals and an underlying message: “What begins as an intimate inquiry into internet dating ascends into a dance floor proclamation – that we put down our phones, get up, and get offline.” In a world consumed by the internet and all things digital, we can definitely get behind that sentiment. Listen below. You guys are in for a treat.
Sondrio‘s fifth installment of his ‘Night Music’ EP series is finally out and serving up some top notch house grooves. With each continual episode of this series he keeps a firm grip on the pulse of the dance floor and exactly what we want to hear on those late nights on sweating it out under shimmering disco balls. This package comes with three new originals including a collab with Black Loops and two remixes from a couple of our favorites: Crackazat and Soul Wun. Take it for a spin after the jump!
It’s a good day for disco when we see New Zealand based producer La Felix pop up in our inbox. His latest track – “Too Many Lies” – a collaboration with with vocalist Max Green is out everywhere today. The track reinvigorates the well known disco formula, yet their dynamic creates something seductive-perfect for mornings and Saturday nights alike. Despite the track’s upbeat demeanor, vocalist Max Green says it has a slightly more serious tone: “Too Many Lies is a song about integrity. In an attempt to reduce anxiety in my life, I’ve personally found the most relief through being honest to both yourself and others. In this particular song, I’m talking about a relationship that was at one point very strong but lost its weight after too many lies were told.” That’s something we can get behind.
If there’s one thing we can get behind, it’s a tasteful French producer championing the West Coast. With his forthcoming release, Cherokee has announced a new EP titled ‘Californism’, out June 21. The lead single on the release is a funky collaboration with Knight One that is perfect for the dance floor or cruising down Sunset Blvd. To go with it, the guys released a California-Cool music video that captures just what makes LA, well LA. If you’re wondering where these guys hang out, we’ve recognized the ever-so-hip Silverlake bar, The Friend, owned by world renowned artist André Saraiva. Stream the music video below.
The weather has been less than predictable here in Los Angeles. With California having recently spent more than just a few years in a drought, we’re not used exactly used to rain in May, but we can’t definitely count on things to heat up soon. When they do we’ll have a collection of delectable tracks to spin our way into summer. Techno and Electronica producer Nhoah, who’s worked alongside the producers of heavyweights like Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, has delivered peak hour material for this very collection. His latest release, “I Can’t Satisfy You” is the kind of track you drop when you want every single body in the room moving. The track is built like a secret weapon. At first, as it starts it’s unassuming, and then it packs an irresistible punch that makes you want to get lost in yourself. Then before you know it, you don’t know what time or day it is, and nothing matters. Get lost it bit below.
Our beloved Yuksek has a new single out featuring Polo & Pan titled “Cadenza.” It’s as hypnotic as we expected, but this time he deviates a bit from his usual disco sound to serve up some quality house vibes. This man can do it all and his attention to melody is unparalleled. Yuksek always knows how to get those bodies into motion. The bass is powerful and confident and when it’s paired with the undulating chords the results are quintessential dance floor fodder. Stream it after the jump!
The Trailing Twelve crew is slated to release a steady stream of bops in the coming months. Coming up first is this gorgeously heady anthem from Boston-based producer, The White Electric. The song is dubbed “Currents” and it fits perfectly with the soundwaves emanating from this track.
“Dissonant keys, tranquil vocal sampling, and modulating percussion act as sparkling particles dancing along a subliminal momentum. Ultimately, this latest release conveys a feeling of calm while introducing unexpectedly pleasant and completely atypical stages of expression.”
We love unexpected sounds and arrangements. And this track really serves up lush layers with peaks and lows and amazing chords. There’s a great expansive and melodic quality to it that really hits the spot. A moody late night snack worthy of a thorough listen as you sit back with your headphones and a cocktail in hand.
Le Youth returns like a breath of fresh air with an all new bop to light up our weekends. He lines up a solid vocal treatment from Samana for this infectious track titled “Selfish.” During his hiatus he ventured out to explore new sounds and work with new hardware. His ear was keen for deeper sounds and it’s represented beautifully in this new track that still carries that house filter only this time with a new twist. The synths are a total standout on this track with deeper layers and multiple levels supporting Samana’s filtered vocals. We’re loving this new direction. One thing is for sure, this one is going to be lighting up plenty of dance floors.

La.Ga.Sta‘s 10 year anniversary compilation is out! They invited some of their favorite artists to contribute to the compilation. The concept behind the release was to ask each artist and producer to choose one of their favorite songs and make a cover with their own twist.
“The outcome is an exceptional 15 track compilation that brings the most deserving music to the surface, from George Michael to Siouxsie and the Banshees and from Sade to Blood Orange. It’s a fusion of different decades and music styles.”
One standout comes from Madrid based producer, Pional, who gives us a gorgeous cover of Blood Orange‘s “Saint.” Catch the stream after the jump! And you can also grab your copy of the compilation over on La.Ga.Sta’s Bandcamp page.
